Hawaii Ace Hardware locations are rounding up to change kids’ health this holiday season

Ace customers like the reward of transformation. The ability to build, create and improve. That’s why the helpful place makes it easy to create lasting change, including how Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, a member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, cares for kids.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be easy to forget about the kids spending time at the hospital. Children’s hospitals are on the frontlines providing the treatments and cures patients desperately need, but they can’t do it alone.

Round up at Ace Hardware this holiday season! Your donation benefits Kapi‘olani Medical Center unlocking a world of possibilities. It ensures children can lead healthy, fulfilling lives while also fostering the builders and creators of tomorrow.

During this season, we reflect on the time that has passed and the positive change we can offer to those around us in the coming year. Children’s hospitals bring joy and spread holiday hope for kids – and you can too! Round up at participating Ace Hardware locations this holiday season to support your local children’s hospital so they can continue to create a strong foundation for future generations.

Patients like Leila-Rose Coloma. She is all heart. She’s sweet, kind and adores her baby brother, Liam.

Problems with her heart almost cut her life short.

Kayley Coloma’s first pregnancy seemed normal. Then, one day, she noticed her baby wasn’t moving much. Her doctor discovered the baby’s heart was racing dangerously fast. An emergency C-section brought Leila into the world, but a rare heart valve defect called Epstein’s anomaly affected her blood circulation. In addition, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome made her heart beat too quickly to effectively pump blood. Her little body wasn’t receiving the oxygen she needed.

Leila spent months in the intensive care units at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. The dedicated staff worked to provide her oxygen and stabilize her heart rate. At 5 months old, she needed open-heart surgery.

“It was the longest day of my life,” mom Kayley said.

Leila recovered. But a few years later, her parents noticed their now active 3-year-old had trouble breathing after running or playing. Her lips would turn bluish. She underwent her second open-heart surgery.

Leila will need more operations. Her parents are grateful for the donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which helped fund Kapi‘olani’s new Pediatric Heart Center. It means she will be able to receive lifesaving care without leaving Hawaiʻi.

“We are so grateful for our generous community,” Kayley said. “Leila wouldn’t be here without Kapi‘olani. We wouldn’t want her to be anywhere else.”

Remember, 100% of your donation remains in Hawai‘i to help kids like Leila-Rose have a brighter future. Bring change this holiday season, round up today!

Together, we see what the future can be and are working to make it a reality. Because when we change kids’ health, we change the future – for all of us!
